Weather
In times of severe weather such as sustained/heavy rainfall, the Copland Track may be closed often at short notice. This is due to flooding and/or other damage. If closed, notices will be placed at the start of the track. Check weather and conditions at the nearest DOC office before departure. Backcountry Hut Passes can be used for this hut from 1 May to 30 September. Passes won't be accepted from 1 October to 30 April. Pay when you make a booking. Hut tickets cannot be used in this hut. Backcountry Hut Passes can be used in this hut from 1 May to 30 September only. How to pay with your Backcountry Hut Pass
Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027. If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked. No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking. Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee. Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain. Book Welcome Flat Hut and Sierra Room online Your booking for the Sierra Room is for a maximum of four people. If you have more than four people in your group, they need to have a booking for (and stay in) the main hut or campsite. Due to fire regulations no more than four people can use or stay in the Sierra Room. Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival.
