Predator control for Mt Aspiring National Park

A predator control operation using toxic bait containing 1080 was completed on 2 March 2026. The operation area includes Mt Aspiring National Park. It is open to the public with warning signs in place at key entrances. There may be toxic carcasses and bait (green coloured pellets) in the area. Do not touch the bait or animal carcasses. Water supply at the huts will be unaffected as tanks will be disconnected from the guttering, but as usual we recommend treating water before drinking. This operation is part of DOC's National Predator Control Programme to protect native species. First published on 16 September 2025. Last reviewed on 2 June 2026.

The water tank at Brewster Hut may be dry during the summer months especially December to February. We recommend you carry sufficient water for your visit during this period.

Before you go, buy Hut Tickets for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass or Campsite Pass. Backcountry Hut Passes can be used for this hut from 1 May to 30 September. Passes won't be accepted from 1 October to 30 April. Bookings are open for stays from 1 October 2026 to 31 May 2027. If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked. No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking. Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee. Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain. 1 October – 31 May Bookings are required. Book Brewster Hut online Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival. 1 June – 30 September Bookings are not required - first come, first served. Fees still apply.
