Predator control for Mt Aspiring National Park

A predator control operation using toxic bait containing 1080 was completed on 2 March 2026. The operation area includes Mt Aspiring National Park. It is open to the public with warning signs in place at key entrances. There may be toxic carcasses and bait (green coloured pellets) in the area. Do not touch the bait or animal carcasses. Water supply at the huts will be unaffected as tanks will be disconnected from the guttering, but as usual we recommend treating water before drinking. This operation is part of DOC's National Predator Control Programme to protect native species. First published on 16 September 2025. Last reviewed on 2 June 2026.

Bookings for stays from 22 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked. No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking. Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee. Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain. 22 October – 30 April Bookings are required. Book Siberia Hut online Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival. 1 May – 21 October Bookings are not required - first come, first served. Fees still apply. Camping outside Siberia Hut From 22 October 2026, you will need a booking to camp outside Siberia Hut. Bookings for camping are now open for the 2026/2027 season. Until 22 October 2026, no bookings are required but fees still apply.
