Wairere Falls Track closed

Wairere Falls Track is fully closed from 7 September 2026 to allow for major safety and infrastructure upgrades in time for summer. The closure includes the car park and toilets. Kauritatahi Hut Track closed
05 July 2026
A significant land slip has occurred on the track to Kauritatahi Hut. The track is closed until further notice as it is blocked by heavy debris, vegetation and large boulders. Do not attempt to cross this slip. First published on 24 August 2022. Last reviewed on 6 July 2026.

This is a serviced 12 bunk hut in the Bay of Plenty region. The hut must be booked online in advance.
Fees and bookings
Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets cannot be used at this hut.
Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027. If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked. No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking. Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee. Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain. Book Te Whare Okioki online . Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival.
